one of my pet peeves is lack of communication which is happening in spades here. also mods who claim to be busy with rl so cant answer questions right away. if you're too busy don't be a mod plain and simple

okay but if our summaries are going to change then do they assume we're all just going to start writing something new after the check in????? if you have enough fic for a summary you're probably going to stick with it at this point. and if you do think our summaries are going to radically change why even ask for them?????
anon i literally have no idea. we have a month left, i'm really not planning on changing my summary and it's specific enough so that my recipient would definitely be able to identify me because i'm not writing a generic college au over here.

kfic fandom, can we stop writing about character x "finding" character y's prostate? that's not how it works. it's not buried treasure; it's in a predictable place, easily reachable with your fingers, around the size of a quarter, and you can actually FEEL it... i mean you really can't miss it if you're paying attention. it's not some magical mysterious spot that you just have to guess at where it is (unless you're a virgin ig). idk i don't blame people for not knowing this but i was just reading a fic that did this and it is one of those inaccuracies that really throws me out of a sex scene.

1. when making announcements in your comm, don't forget to email the participants about it. don't assume that they always check their friends page because 75% of the time, they don't.
2. if a participant doesn't reply to an email you sent in 3 days, email said participant again. if she still doesn't reply overnight, then panic and consider her a dropout.
3. remember that a mod is any fic challenge/contest/exchange's first line of defense. be prepared to pinch hit.
4. always send 2 reminder emails before a deadline -- the first, a week before the deadline, and the second the day before the deadline.
5. always acknowledge that you've received a draft or a submission from the participant.
6. a period of inactivity longer than 3 days is bad. if you have to delay posting or reveals, then let the participants know. post an announcement in the comm; it's better than making everyone wait.
7. participants and readers want complete transparency, so always let them know what's going on (even at the risk of sounding obnoxious; they'll appreciate the info, anyway).
8. never reply to emails in a bitchy tone. it just makes you look and sound a crazy, overly invested fan who takes herself too seriously. be civil and strict, but never be a bitch.
9. humor is a welcome addition to any community announcement or an email. it helps participants feel good about joining the contest/exchange, knowing that their mods aren't robots.

the competitions/exchanges must have had lots of mods, i presume. also isn't three days too little time for the mods to assume that the participant has dropped out? something like that happened in previous competitions/exchanges and the participants were not happy. i think five would be a better number, imo

geeze :/ i went to read what anon said about the vixx exchange mods getting back to you guys and they just swat you away like a fly on the wall. i wish i could apologize for you guys having to deal with this. there's no attempt to see eye to eye or discuss things out and make changes for the better. it's just rules set in stone and no ones budging. the tone of condescension is strong in this one.

agreeing with OP here - if the LJ comm is supposed to be the main method of communication, why were announcements for check in #2 made on twitter, and why did the mods not check the comm themselves? it's mindboggling tbh
