sighs if they're all automatically considered drop-outs i feel SO BAD for the pinch-hitters (and the writers who worked hard but just didn't know about the check-in)
well, i'd like to think they clue in that there's a problem when no one check ins and they finally EMAIL people saying hey are you still in
BUT if multiple people drop out i think it would be easier just to reassign things instead of pinch hitting?? like if i drop out i dont want my writer to feel obligated to keep writing a fic for me since i'm not participating anymore.
mte if half or something of the participants dropped out they'd have to check with them
tbh i sort of see where they're coming from with the "info will be given through the lj-comm so follow the lj-comm" but you'd think it's in their interest to reach out to the participants as much as possible and i mean how long would it even take to type up and send out a mass email saying there's a check-up? five minutes?
as someone who only keeps an lj to sign up for things i find it frustrating that the assumption is that i use it regularly enough to catch updates. especially since lj is not phone friendly at all whereas email is phone friendly. and it's not hard to copay and paste your lj post into an email and bcc everyone on it.
ikr ita everybody has different platforms they prefer and as mods they should try to cover as many platforms as possible. as they said you can put up notifications so you'll get emails as soon as they post something. but that doesn't rly seem easier for anybody involved bec ppl will not do it and miss the check ups or ppl will not understand how to do it and thus the mods will have to reply to them and explain and yeah. i just feel that it should be in a mod's interest to make it as clear and simple as possible, for their own sake
this is one thing i hate about exchanges: i always force myself not to drop out even when i really, really should just because i feel bad that i'm getting a fic and giving nothing to the exchange in return. i wish exchanges would contact the drop-out's writer like "hey, your recipient just dropped out, so if you're really struggling on this fic and you want a reassignment we can do that for you." or, one year both my writer and my recipient dropped out and i wished i'd known that so i could just drop out myself without guilt u___u
