i thought i could handle watching akb48's "show must go on" doc because i thought anons were exaggerating how heartbreaking their docs are, but yuko holding her sobs in for so long and then just crumpling backstage when it hits her that she didn't win the senbatsu and bawling into mariko's chest is where i lost it
yeah i think so. rememer his mouth didn’t open and close, his jaw just slid back and foth. i remember the little girl said “why does your mouth move like that” and the skin-taker didn’t look at the girl but at the camera and said “TO GRIND YOUR SKIN”
rereading my favourite scary shorts on r/creepypasta, and then after that i plan on going through the japanese horror riddles i have saved :3 i love a good scare at 2 in the morning
"arrangement- the art of preparing and adapting an already written composition in presentation in other than its original form. an arrangement may include reharmonization, paraphrasing, and/or development of composition, so that it fully represents the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic structure"
you're telling me on every single song besides TWO, someone has been doing that for him? and wtf he's only composed 5 songs by himself? idgi i thought he was like a top tier producer or something
any hello venus anons on? just going through their second mini. i'll be honest, i don't like their new title track yet. it still retains the same cutesy but not-that-cutesy kind of vibe but it's not as catchy as venus and it's just forgettable rn (even if i appreciate yooyoung's rap).
romantic love is slightly much better, but slightly being the key word here. and i can't stand pledis's ballads most of the time bc they're mostly generic so i didn't listen to the rest of first love.
same is better than the first three, it's a mellow, sort of r&b-ish track. i love the piano notes in the end.
winter fantasy is ok, i find the chorus forgettable, but the other parts of the song make up for it.
i haven't listened to the new mini yet but this makes me sad :( i just want them to be awesome and do awesome songs man idk but tbh i didn't like venus all that much either
"2. G-Dragon gets more credit (and profit) than he deserves. This is the one I was most fearful about mentioning. I'm NOT saying that he's not talented. He is undeniably someone who was meant to be a celebrity, but the notion that he is some musical genius is largely over-exaggerated. I'm sure he is capable of writing his own lyrics and composing his own music, but he and YG are known (among the music producers) for "stealing". My source obviously knows a lot of other music producers, but one of his closer hyungs was in talks with YG over one of his songs. But I guess negotiations kind of stopped for a while so he just assumed that they weren't interested. Little later his song was released, being marketed as a creation of GD. I'm thinking that it wasn't GD who personally wanted to take the song, but it might have been a company decision because apparently GD felt bad enough to apologize personally to that producer and buy him a Bentley (in return for his silence I suppose).
He wouldn't tell me which song it was, but he was implying that it was one that was promoted by Big Bang as a single. But don't quote me on that. So yes...Entertainment companies can be shady. That really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone because K-entertainment is first and foremost a business. I only personally know that one case of song-stealing mentioned above, but (source) was telling me that's the reason that most companies have in-house producers that are taken care of in return for helping maintain the image of their artists. So even if those in-house producers know that these artists are not really musical geniuses, they would never bring it to light because it's their company's reputation at stake. In the end it's the sort of free-lance music producers that are often times screwed over by really big entertainment companies. These big companies really are powerful to the point where it becomes near impossible for anyone to oppose them. Also since some have crazy fan bases that would blindly support their beloved company to the point of ignorance. Does that make sense?
Okay this post became a lot longer than I expected, but I guess I'll just make this post about what goes on from a composer/producer/songwriter's perspective. Now i'm not saying that all of these kinds of people are being screwed over, there are people who are able to make it , but the practice of song-stealing is not unheard of, especially from fairly new, no-name people if they're not careful. Or even if they're careful big companies can and will go to extreme lengths to cover it up."
as a casual bb stan who is neither a composer nor arranger nor lyricist, i just like gd the way he is in the studio when he's telling people how to sing and how relentless he is (was? a recent interview seems to show that he's changed) about getting a perfect product. idk, there's something nice about how much time he's willing to spend in the studio, even if he isn't the only guy churning out musical masterpieces from conception to production
the thing is, is that he's respectable enough just doing what you've mentioned. he's respectable as a lyricist and someone who looks over their work so closely. but he's not respectable for spouting an image that isn't one he can own up to. i can only imagine how many people think he put one of a kind together from top to bottom... the words, the beat, the rhythm... everything down to a final cut when a producer comes in and says 'x this little thing and add that and we're golden!'
Wait, some anons seem to be either seriously pressed or just plain misinformed.
Music, especially pop music is exceptionaly collaborative, so to say gd has only composed 2 songs and therefore has no standing is a load of BS. He composes, writes and produces and has been the producer of bigbang's albums for years now, with the rest of bigbang being credited as Co-producers and yg as executive producer. He and other members like top also have credits like being recording directors. Look up pretty much any pop artist including singer-songwriters and their album credits will look a lot similar. Because that's simply how the industry works.
I think gd is over-promoted and overrated and far from a genius but to call into question his involvement in bb's music based on the fact that it's collaborative is really offbase. He's one of the top-earning song writers in Korea and also one with a huge output. The quality of that output or one interview does not change that.
and the difference between gd and most idols is that he's credited as bb's producer because that makes him the boss in the studio and of that album. This does not give him the freedom to do whatever the fuck he wants because at the end of the day, the company is his boss but in terms of The industry the buck stops with him. This is why teddy is credited for 2ne1's music. Not just because he writes their music but because he produces it.
so that's 2 spots in japan which leads me to believe this is all a culture excursion of some sort. it has to do with a korean come back, it just does. maybe key mentioning wanting to do a reality tv show to reveal his personality is hinting at the fact that something based on shinee doing irl things is going to be on tv soon? as far as taemin being in turkey and how fucking random that is... is there any connection to catholicism over there? because we already know those prayer beads he gave to that girl were his most precious possession, so if this relates to shinee's interests and culture, he might travel to a religious sight. isn't the vatican there? i'm not religious so i might be confused
this is tl;dr but i'm commenting here since that thread is huge and it's been a while since you left that comment so i'm not sure you'd see this otherwise... but my favorite part would definitely be composition! i feel a type of completion when i've figured out how to string these seemingly random sounds together to form a melody. it's almost as though unlike lyrics which are created to convey the message of a language, composing is like creating a language to communicate with something you can't talk to directly, to speak back at you in the words you can't physically express. i also really love lyrical composition, too, though, because stringing together that type of foreign language with an existent language gives those words a different route in which to convey their message.
and actually, i'm kind of the type who needs to approach most compositions as though they might be lyrical. i don't write lyrics in the sense that i write words and find a melody later because, just by chance it seems, there's always a melody that precedes them. 95% of the time a sound comes to my mind and i 'fill it in' with words. in that way, i remember the sound better and can build upon it later because i've established a conversation with the sound that i can reflect on later.
of course there are times when i only think of a melody and can't match it with any words, but that often leads to a stale mate because i have no 'anchor' with the sound unless i'm altering it electronically, second after second, in a sound program... like solving an equation with no solution method. in that way composing only sound is actually the hardest for me. a lot of the time it's like if i can't find words to put to a melody it becomes a short clip of something i have to revisit for months until i can build upon it randomly or finally find words to fill it in with. but i do have an 11 minute long classical composition full of strings, piano, and wind instruments that i've never tried putting any words to. classical music is one of my favorite things to write and what i find most reward in.
so i guess my favorite thing is also what's most difficult?
my other process is, when i listen to songs i often hear another song or other sounds playing. not literally of course, but like sounds that would compliment the song in just the right way if only the song or someone else could hear them. i'll start humming the sound that i hear and build from there. as per what i said before... that usually includes lyrics coming about to 'anchor' the sound, which pm means that i'll find a song inside a song that doesn't actually exist but can stand on it's own. however i also do improv to songs on guitar, which needless to say, is sound-based and not word based so i also write musical compositions using songs too, with no lyrical content start or finish.
i don't do this professionally and i'm torn tbh. i want to sell my songs but i'm afraid they'll just get stolen or bought for nothing and this leads me to think that perhaps i should just try to pursue my own musical career as an artist, since i've been told i can sing and actually love to sing
