so if k-idols apologized for all the problematic shit they've done, would you forgive them?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
if they meant it and made an actual, sincere effort to make up for it/show that they're really apologetic

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
everything is problematic so there is no point to this

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
even acts of charity

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
the concept of "charity" and the way some cultures have monopolized it can be problematic, so yeah, actually. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
yeah anon i was agreeing with you dw

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
oh! lol sorry.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
if it was a sincere apology and not a bullshit "i'm sorry you were offended" apology, then i'd take that gesture into account. it depends on what they did, too, and the severity of their problematic words or actions, as well as cultural context (cultural context doesn't magically absolve someone of their transgressions, of course, but i think it's really easy for calling out shit to snowball into picking apart every little thing and completely disregarding the context).

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
it'd depend on the tone of the apology but probably yes. i don't think it's worth writing off someone forever bc they said something problematic... almost everyone is going to be racist/sexist/homophobic/whatever at some point in their lifetime, and i don't understand why you'd keep hating someone who learns, acknowledges their wrongdoing, and is genuinely sorry for saying it in the first place.

+1

it depends on the nature of the problematic action or words, of course, but chances are the people calling out kidols for shit have done problematic shit themselves, and instead of writing off that idol as their wrongdoing and nothing else, you should use their wrongdoing to open dialogue and reflect on your own wrongdoings.
