i will surely wait ;----; but whatever marketing strategy they've been following for the last half year has been so fucked up and i will never forgive SM if they don't pull this off. i will not have exo wither away in the SM dungeons ;--;

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
da anon at this rate you don't have anything to worry about? have you seen their album sales?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, but they still aren't getting invited to shows or sme is pushing them to be on shows.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
ia but i guess they don't really see the point in pushing their idols into variety shows when they're making money and gaining fans without them anyway? when was the last time an entire sm group had their own show lol, snsd's dangerous boys?

i think it's pretty obvious that korean public recognition isn't the company's main goal for their groups anymore, they're more about the international scene now and ~leading the hallyu wave~ i'm not saying they're right or anything, but their recent decisions in promotions (uploading a lot of material like music videos, exo's 23 teasers, music show performances, etc.) point to making more of an impact internationally than just locally

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
ig, but they haven't been giving fans anything recently.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
sm town? photoshoots? some festival performances? their numerous interviews idek how many i've missed

idk anon i think they're still doing a lot for idols who've stopped promoting since july lol

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
idk how much the sales actually mean? if every fan buys 10+ cds to get into fansigns etc (but maybe SM doesn't care about the number of fans as long as they get the cash). and all these reports about exo being unknown in the general korea. i'm not actually worried bec even with the oversaturated market, SM is still amongst the biggest of wigs and that alone goes a long way. but they can still fuck this up and i will be pissed out of my mind of they do. or they just continue on the tacky mama-esque route and i'll never get to see more of what got me into exo in the first place.

/rant over but yeah, i'll keep your words in mind ;--;

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
lol anon don't worry too much, i don't think exo's thousands (millions?) of fans would let them rot in the dungeons

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i feel like exo debut did not go how sme planned at all and now they are at a loss as what to do

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
asdfghjk i do too! they had such a glorious thing going with the teasers but then mama was so different and idk what the fuck they're doing, and idk if even they know wtf they're doing.
but what do you think went wrong? bec i 100 days promo technique was... experimental to say the least but i think that it was all well so far, they managed to stir up a great hype. it's after that that the problems came, with having to promote the same shitty songs for half a year smh

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
ah! are you still here? I have lots of thoughts on this.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
yes i am haha. i have a lot of thoughts as well, as you can see.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
excellent!

i think on paper the idea if exo sounds like a good one. but people are always going to like one subgroup over the other. especially if joint promotions are rare.

they clearly didn't have a follow up song planned for promotions. which would have been fine a few years ago but now there's a lot more competition. and that competition is working really hard to get their names out there and not let people forget them.

exo doesn't have to be on all the varieties but some sort if show would go a long way to engaging both the Korean market and the international market.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
i can agree with that, but the question is whether it matters that ppl favor one subgroup over the other? unless a clear majority favor one, but that doesn't seem to be the case with exo. depending on what fanbase you look at, you'll get different answers and idk how wellknown m is in china but if you were to round up all fans they have, wouldn't it be a rough 50/50? with a lot of ot12 love as well, esp internationally. (tho they should def do more joint performances, not bec i care much for them but bec it's sort of pointless ranting about how they are one etc etc if we never get to see them together :I)

idk if anything is clear. but they should have released a follow-up single already this summer, and for some reason they didn't. and i am so curious as to why. they have long ago drowned in the flood of bap and nu'est comebacks at this rate.

yessss they need to get out there, they need to get on shows or have a show of their own or just be around. even if SM doesn't really care for the korean public anymore, an ot12 show would cater to both dedicated and potential fans, and is easily accessible for us poor international fans. i was expecting a reality show already this summer, seeing how both suju, snsd and shinee got one shortly after debut. (fx is the forevar neglected stepsister :/)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
da and just butting in to say f(x) got a (short-lived...) reality show 8 months after debut so it's possible that exo will be having theirs around the same time too (december/january, i guess)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i've sort of shifted to expecting that instead. but it's still too late. :I

the lack of follow up will forever be odd to me.

i do wonder if they are pitching shows and getting rejected. or they have been getting offers but sme has turned them down? a lot of nugus/rookies have gotten shows, mainly on MTV, so it just strange that exo isn't doing one. interviews and festival performances are great but they aren't going to win over potential fans that way. as someone on the fence about them its easier to just forget them and move on to someone who is providing me with new material either as new songs or shows

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah i've been wondering that as well - what if they dont get any offers to appear on tv? that must burnnnn SMs ego. at this point it seems like they avoid tv, for some reason. maybe to make them stand out from the other rookies who do multiple singles and shows? but. i really don't think it's gonna work.

i can see the local festivals thing if they're like touring around the country to let ppl meet/see them and get to know them, or something. but i think of that event k did recently. first i see an IV drip in a picture, and next 80-something ladies in hospital gowns, and i was like... wat? is that the audience you're going for?

still i sort of recognize this from the teaser era, where we were just sitting here all "wtf are they doing, this isn't gonna work, wat". so a small part of me thinks that maybe SM has something up their sleeve? bec they're clearly going for unconventional methods with this group

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
the output definitely did not equal the input.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
this comment doesn't make sense

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
the amount sm invested in exo did not pay off.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
lol anon if you're making an investment on a kpop group and you expect it to pay off in 6 months

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
the amount invested was way above average and exo's performance was barely average so i wouldn't be surprised if sm are reevaluating their strategy.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
lol yeah ia, it sucks because i think they've been planning this strategy for years and it doesn't seem like things are going as planned, at least in the korean market.

da but i think that i means a lot of effort was put into promoting them at the beginning, but what was got out of it was mediocre
