i would prefer if it stuck to rpf. like no reply1997 fic, but you could write about the actors themselves. since there are different "rules" for writing fics based on fiction than on real people.

op and yes i def agree! sry i was kind of ambiguous about that in the original comment haha, solely rpf sounds like a good boundary because you're right, fpf is veeeery different

(Anonymous) 2012-09-22 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
da and there are different rules when it comes to writing fic for rpf vs fiction?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-22 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
not ayrt but i think that the approaches to the two of them can be very different? with rpf the source material is basically their actual lives and you have to do research and digging to find out facts about them for characterization, whilst with fpf most of the time that fictional character's history and motivations are already mapped out for you in the source material (book/movie/show/whatever) which changes how you interact with the material

there are other intuitive differences too, idt ayrt meant anything so cut and dry as actual "rules"

so why does this make it so anons don't want to do it one way but the other way? idgi

like it'd just be easier if everyone was at the base level of "rpf" when approaching the challenge? introducing the option to write fpf would just make things too complicated imo

because seouldout is a contest?

it's going to be unfair for both rpf and fpf writers because they'll be judged through the same criteria?

Re: da

but they aren't much different, what is the criteria?

Re: da

op and it takes so much more effort/research to properly characterize a real person in fic than it does for a fictional character

the purpose of my original comment was just to ask if we could include actors and other k-industry people of high profile instead of just kpop idols

i meant the personal criteria of the person voting. not everyone writes or reads fpf so the level of critique for contest entries wouldn't be the same if it was just RPF fic instead of RPF+FPF.

well i mean first of all in rpf there are so many boundaries that you have to toe bc readers are sensitive about it. no first person, don't involve idols families, etc. those things go away when you write based on fiction.

and second of all, you do a lot less invention when writing fic based on fiction. if you were writing r1997 fic, for example, you have almost full access to various characters' thoughts in the show. for idols, not so much.
