for me, matching is primarily based on pairings (at least two pairings in common between recipient and writer) and no conflicting dnws. this time around a lot of people had preferences about what they wanted to write (eg only porn or only angst etc) that made it a lot more difficult because i was trying to satisfy everyone T__T
(everyone has preferences and that's fine, but in the future i'm going to be more clear about how much writing preferences outside of pairings and dnws weigh in terms of matching to avoid the stress that this round of matching caused. i really would love to give everyone a recipient that perfectly matches all of their desires, but the reality is that if you are signing up with only a narrow range of fics you are willing to write, you might have to either broaden it or accept that it's very likely not to be your ideal.)
ia with your plan for next round. i see exchanges as the most challenging one among fandom-writing's stuff, so joining with limiting/too specific wants takes all the expectations and possibilities for new likes away.
