the thread above mentioning threats to send someone's fics to their school made me wonder, do colleges/universities really give a fuck? if you emailed school administration a link to some korean boyband fanfiction that you claim is written by one of their students, would they actually care enough to investigate it and take action? and would they even have the desire or authority to take action based on a student's hobby in their free time? maybe it's just me, but i think university administration probably has much bigger issues on their hands than digging through kpop fanfiction and interrogating students about it, lmao
i feel like it's less about the school administration finding out than it is their peers at the school? idk i never figured out exactly how that'd work
i'm not sure how sending a link to fics "to their school" would somehow cause the peers to find out? obviously the person giving the threats wouldn't have the email address of all the students in the school, and something like that sent to school administration isn't going to be made public to the students. in theory, yes, it would be embarrassing if all your peers found out about your fanfiction. the threat just sounds vague enough that i don't really think they know how it would work either, lol
there are a few schools that have like... online messaging boards but aside from posting there and connecting it with a student i'm totally lost tbh lol
i guess as long as you don't have to be a student to post there it could theoretically work for those specific schools. although i feel like the people threatening haven't thought that far ahead, lol.
i have to wonder though, if some anonymous person tried telling a fic writer's peers that this was their fic, how many would actually believe it? or even care? especially if they don't have any really solid proof
op absolutely same, and i keep my irl self and online persona very separate because of this. but i'm not sure it's the horrible career-ending threat people perceive it as
