counterpoint: pride and prejudice is an awful book

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
debatable.

then please go ahead. actually i've tried to read it all of three (3) times but i could never get past ten or so chapters. to me it's just pages and pages of uninteresting people talking about nothing and believe me, my most loved book has the exact same thing minus the 'un' in 'uninteresting'.

shame you couldn't finish it...watch the movie?

no really, it's quite a witty piece of social satire, but obviously not for everyone. it's not my favourite book either, but you can't dismiss it as a insignificant piece of literature just because you didn't like it.

at this point i'm not interested. good suggestion, though.

i said i thought the book was awful, not that it was insignificant. given its mainstream popularity and many derivative works i don't think anybody could realistically argue for the book's insignificance. you're right though- it's not for everyone.

i used pride and prejudice as an example of a title that has meaning behind it as well as being a very successful book. would you have preferred i'd have used say, crime and punishment? let's face it, fanfics are unpublished short stories (except the very well written ones that are even longer than or as long as a published novel) and having an original title isn't as important as having a good story.
