this is just my personal opinion, but ken seems to be the only one of them who doesn't treat hyuk like a little kid all the time. they seem more like equals, and like to play around together. they're similarly goofy and go along with each other's jokes, whereas everyone else usually just laughs at their jokes (esp. ken, the other members tend to just wtf and laugh at him, but hyuk plays along and it's so cute). idk i see them as cuddly and adorable with a lot of potential to get into trouble together. :3
oh my god that's so adorable ;; hyuk seems to be close to ken on cam too, but somehow ken doesn't really respond to him ;; i'm quite sure he responds well in private, though. i feel that ken onstage/on cam is quite different from his rl self.
i think off screen ken is basically the same but toned down like 90% lmao. i don't think anyone minus children can maintain that energy level. on shows and stuff ken tends to float around and do his own thing, and he mostly interacts with those who engage him directly and actively (usually n and ravi) and his relationships with the others kind of fade into the background, but i think he's definitely close to all of them.
me too ;; jaehwan is difficult to read, imo, so i'd love to know more about what other people think about him. hmmm, tell me about how you think he's like in rl with the members? would he be as noisy as hakyeon? who would he be the closest with?
he's definitely difficult. it's hard to find a balance between his silly idol persona and who the ~real jaehwan~ is. irl i think he's still pretty silly and tries to lighten up the mood to the point where it's sometimes annoying. i think he's really responsible, though, which isn't something we see when he's on camera. hell, he's the only one of them who can drive! i think it isn't in his nature to show when he's feeling down, but he's the one constantly trying to cheer everyone up.
as for how he is with the others, i believe it when they (the members during interviews) say that ALL of them are closest with hakyeon. hakyeon gets all of them to open up and brings out the best in all of them. i think hongbin would be the next closest. their friendship doesn't often show up on camera but that just makes me believe in it more, especially in conjunction with things said during interviews. next would be wonsik and taekwoon whom i think jaehwan is about equally close to. taekwoon and jaehwan and their love/hate thing going on but i think it's exaggerated for the camera. irl i think they're comfortable together and jaehwan helps taekwoon come out of his shell in a more subtle way than hakyeon (EVERYONE is more subtle than leader tho). i'm still sorting out wonsik and jaehwan's relationship but it intrigues me greatly. *______* i think ken and sanghyuk took more time to get to know each other, never outwardly awkward because that's not how jaehwan interacts with anyone. they've gradually grown closer and it's so cute!
WOW TOO MUCH. care to share your thoughts, anon? :D
ia with your take on his personality. i remember that time in mydol where the producer was asking who taught sanghyuk how to sing because terrible and jaehwan raised his hand. granted, it was probably scripted, but if it wasn't, i'm pretty impressed bc it takes a lot to step out of the competitive spirit that many trainees have adopted over the years, even if there is some sense of camaraderie between them.
i think jaehwan sometimes lets his on-screen personality bleed into rl. i can't put my finger on it, but the way he behaves on-screen (when not in the foreground) is different compared to mydol. but maybe that's just scripted, again.
i feel like he's a very transparent person irl. when he's lonely, he'll push people for a reaction, and maybe that's also his need for validation coming into play. he clearly enjoys making people laugh, but he also wants people to acknowledge that.
this is gonna sound so mean but i think he's awkward irl. he's proud of his voice and his hard work, i'm sure, but his insecurities perhaps stem from his fear of offending people, which is why he can be so careful with others on-screen. he strikes me as someone who is determined to separate rl from onstage ie. his interactions with sanghyuk on-screen. i think he might want to preserve a part of his relationship with his members behind the cameras, but at the same time he is also aware of what is expected. he plays things up with taekwoon ie kissing his hand, reacting in a way that is totally predictable when taekwoon was poking him as he spoke to the camera, etc.
i'm not saying he's not confident, though. he is, but i feel that these details just stood out to me since he's supposed to be the confident prankster who's really easy-going.
as for his relationships, idk ;;; his relationship with wonshik is the most mysterious, i agree. i will definitely watch them closely in their variety shows when i get to it. i think he gets along well with hakyeon bc although we can type him as an extrovert, he's not that good with people. if someone ie hakyeon takes the lead, it relieves him of the pressure to keep the conversation going. which is why he sometimes just glances at hakyeon not-so-subtly on-screen for a direction, and then speak. he might be close with hongbin because that boy adores him, lol. i think the interest hongbin has in him puts him at ease as well. taekwoon...i remember that he said he was scared of him at first because taekwoon didn't talk to him, and then when taekwoon asked him to drink water? or something, jaehwan then got closer to him. i also remember someone saying that jaehwan is observant, so in a way this could be his downfall, bc he observes before he takes action, moreso in his relationships than in other aspects of his life.
omg this is terrible and rambly but please tell me what you think anyway n_n
ia with a lot of what you have to say! a couple things gave me pause, though i don't think they're incorrect at all. i think he does try and push people for reactions and seeks validation, but i don't think he's transparent about it? idk i can't imagine vixx being obviously upset about something. he seems the type of person whom you need to know for a while before you can sense when he's angry/sad/anything negative because he tries to sugarcoat himself. that ties in to what you said about him being awkward/not good with people. i think that stems from a need to please. he's the youngest brother but has said he never got the chance to act cute, and he seems very young sibling-y to me, blatantly asking for attention and wanting to please. i think a lot of what jaehwan does on screen comes from a need to please, and i think he relies on hakyeon, as you said, because he's not always sure what he should do to please the fans/fit the situation. hakyeon is a much more natural idol, and jaehwan works really hard to try to be good at it too without that natural talent.
about his confidence, i get why he seems confident and yet not. i think he's proud of his talents, but before becoming an idol never really had huge expectations for himself? and he likes it when people expect things of him and he works hard to fulfill those expectations. in turn he sets his own expectations higher, which shows that he's confident but never (seriously) overtly so.
omg that was the wrong term (it's late over here sorry anon). what i was trying to say is that he does outright push people for physical attention, but he's def more subtle when he wants people to look out for him/laugh at his jokes. i...might...disagree on vixx's transparency though /o\
yeah, i think you've done a much better job at explaining jaehwan |D his need to please is definitely distinct.
about his confidence as an idol, i actually don't know...anything about that? although i agree that he does take his work seriously. do you have any specific examples in mind?
cries a jaehwan meta thread T__T my hopes and dreams. i have talked about him before but i think he is both deceptively simple and also.....actually pretty simple?
idk i am trying to piece my thoughts together here. ia with whichever of you said he's responsible. as much as he jokes and fucks around with everyone, i think he seems to be aware of boundaries and pushing people too far. i always thought, even though he was my initial favorite, that he would reveal himself to be a douche but i'm pleasantly surprised so far that he hasn't been. and thinking about how everyone went to go play with baby pigs but he stayed to clean poop or how diligently he worked in the field, he seems to be a hard worker.
i think he definitely plays up his prankster self for the camera but you can also see hints of his real self in their diary? i don't think he's that much different, just toned down but idk thinking about him and hongbin in the elevator for some reason? and how they were just kind of goofily smiling at each other. maybe that's my ship bias lmao. but also like that predebut clip of him singing at school, he was already hamming up the attention so i imagine he's always been someone who soaks up attention. and i think he likes to draw other people out through his own attention seekign ways. like hyuk.
i don't think he would be the type to reveal too easily if he was upset. he would try to joke and play it off. but i also think he wouldn't be the type to get too upset in the first place? idk to me he's always seemed pretty secure with himself, even in mydol. he takes criticism really well.
