Has this been discussed recently? I haven't been here in forever and just randomly decided to check and see if it still existed and damn was I surprised to see you guys trucking along at a new part!

Anyway, what's something that really bothers you in fic?

For me its canon fic where everyone is gay. Or frienship fics that seem to force relationships at the end like they think its a requirement or something.

pretty similar to your peeves, but i really hate "pair the spares" (when people make all the main "fandom canon" couples get together, then just shove the rest of the members together in random couplings so that everyone can be in a relationship at the end)

gratuitous over the top angst that isn't earned and is only shoehorned into the story to try and ply at readers' feelings, melodrama for melodrama's sake

well i read both slash and het, so i find "everyone is straight" equally bothersome.
pair the spares, too
evil third wheels
bridezilla
stories with no plot/conflict (just flowery writing)
when the author's bias is too obvious
bdsm with no safewords
otp getting together just because they are otp and no other reason given
badly written female characters
male characters wrongly characterised to fit the uke/seme stereotype

meanwhile i find bdsm with pointless safe words annoying

not every scene needs a safeword >:(

when authors write snarky, unrealistic banter for no reason other than to show off their wittiness.

when the author just throws in the most tragic thing they can think of because they want to make the reader feel something and they think that making the unrequited love interest die in a car crash is the way to do it.

everyone is gay i don't mind too much in theory... i mean, it's not unusual for a gay person to have lots of other gay friends, and even in canon i can imagine how the trope could be used in a sensitive way to tell a story about being gay in korea. but it's never ever written like that, of course. (where ARE all the fics about sexuality, anyway? do they even exist?)

i....don't want any fics about sexuality personally. they hit too close to home for me and i don't want an unhappy or "realistic" ending for someone who is struggling with their sexuality :(

nonkpop fic related but i can't read things where a magical/supernatural storyline is introduced and all of a sudden the character is like half banshee half vampire and kicks ass out of nowhere /o\
bashing a character for no reason
sex that isn't physically possible
woe is me characters my life sucks (and then no character development)
overuse of certain punctuation (don't use -'s every other line or every single paragraph!!!!! nothing makes me scratch my head more...)

i don't mind the everyone is gay thing - well in kpop canon trying very hard to be as life like as possible it's weird. i guess it's bc i'm reading fanfic and i don't expect it to be realistic nor do i exactly want it to be (feed me my fantasies authors)

i can't think of anything else...except that first one really makes me click out and never come back. leave now and never come back!

your first point makes me laugh so much because it reminds me of all those harry potter fics where harry was like half veela, quarter dragon, quarter vampire and dumbledore's secret grandson who can turn into into a phoenix at will and also controls the elements and speaks fluent goblin

yes harry potter is the main culprit of that issue :C all of the sudden harry grows wings and claws and draco becomes his mate and he kills voldemort with a single glance of his medusa eyes. just no!
i've seen this in other fandoms unfortunately i was trying to read a fic based on the summary for a diff fandom and then all of a sudden lo and behold a wise person came telling main character that they were actually half banshee and were awakened and nOOoOOOOOOOooOOO just nOooooooooo

inaccuracy about idols' siblings (when known), birthplace (when known) and age differences in canon fic, and the sibling thing sometimes bugs me in au fic too
diminutive nicknames that the person has never been referred to by irl

omg that bothers me so much!! I'll be reading and they'll mention the brother or something but I'll be like wait wait, he's a younger brother not older! And it takes me out of the story :(
