i have come to the realization that the biggest issues with most of my wips is that i never rly have any plot. i seem think in settings, not in stories. like i love thinking of different worlds and aus and environments for things to take place, but i never think of what is actually going to take place. this doesn't necessarily have to be a problem because imo not everything needs an actual plot, especially not shorter things, but it's becoming a problem for me because i never know what to write, i often have huge trouble filling out a fic because i literally don't know what's going to happen in this great au i've drawn up. maybe plot-building is something you need to practice and get good at, like everything else, but i just don't know how?? does anyone have any tips at how to come up with plots when it doesn't come natural to you?
if you are dissatisfied with the feedback (or lack thereof) you're receiving, i have two points of advice:
1. use ao3. i cannot tell you how happy it makes me when i see my hit count creep up and up, even if it's just one more hit a day. ao3 is much more user friendly for people who prefer to comment anonymously, too, and its kudos system allows people to just generally like something without having to leave a full comment. i receive way more feedback there than i do on lj now. 1a) don't forget to link to the crosspost in your lj entry, too. :* 2) get an ask.fm and link to it often. it's another anon-friendly system that also encourages readers to request stuff from you. even if you can't complete all the requests you receive, it's a good place to get ideas from people who've read your stuff.
