i suppose this is supposed to be more of an exploration of suho and kai's relationship? idk, not much happened. a lot of smoking and talking. everything was well written but i'm really glad it wasn't any longer than it was or it would have gotten tedious.
i have come to the realization that the biggest issues with most of my wips is that i never rly have any plot. i seem think in settings, not in stories. like i love thinking of different worlds and aus and environments for things to take place, but i never think of what is actually going to take place. this doesn't necessarily have to be a problem because imo not everything needs an actual plot, especially not shorter things, but it's becoming a problem for me because i never know what to write, i often have huge trouble filling out a fic because i literally don't know what's going to happen in this great au i've drawn up. maybe plot-building is something you need to practice and get good at, like everything else, but i just don't know how?? does anyone have any tips at how to come up with plots when it doesn't come natural to you?
i think sometimes it's easier to come up with a plot if you know where the story is going to end. you might not know where you're going in the middle, and you might change the middle stuff as you're writing it, but if you have a solid or tentative ending in mind then making a plot is all about finding a way to reach that ending. it can be as simple as i want character a to get together with character b in the final scene. or everyone packs their bags and leaves at the end of summer. it might also help to brainstorm a couple things you'd like the character to achieve by the ending. you want to make your characters come to some realization about themselves or the plot. maybe they have a lot of flaws that are highlighted in the middle of the story that makes the story about their struggle to improve or see things through. think up some scenes that you would have fun writing in the au you've created and tailor them to fit the story! you could always as a friend for some ideas because a fresh perspective is helpful too write things down or keep an idea bank in your head is good practice! i hope this helps you a bit - it's just some things i also think about when trying to work with a story plot
seeing how it's mentioned in relation to exo and "weekly writing rounds being held and with an average of three to five hundred comments per round" it sounds more like exopromptmeme but it's weird that they wouldn't link that if they specifically had that in mind, idk.
of the ones i read, i definitely like the mblaq one best. not just because good fic for them is so rare, but because i like how it experimented with form in a way that felt like the best way to tell the story, rather than form for form's sake, and because i thought the characterization was really good. i want to know who wrote it!
i guess they think it's going to shame people into not dropping out of the exchange or challenge but sometimes people really do need to drop out and shaming them is not a good response
if you are dissatisfied with the feedback (or lack thereof) you're receiving, i have two points of advice:
1. use ao3. i cannot tell you how happy it makes me when i see my hit count creep up and up, even if it's just one more hit a day. ao3 is much more user friendly for people who prefer to comment anonymously, too, and its kudos system allows people to just generally like something without having to leave a full comment. i receive way more feedback there than i do on lj now. 1a) don't forget to link to the crosspost in your lj entry, too. :* 2) get an ask.fm and link to it often. it's another anon-friendly system that also encourages readers to request stuff from you. even if you can't complete all the requests you receive, it's a good place to get ideas from people who've read your stuff.
also: utilize tags on ao3. many people look for specific kinks or genres to read regardless of fandom.
but yeah i love ao3. somehow one of my fics shot up in hits and kudos lately and i have no idea where it might've been linked but i'm happy about it.
and i have anon turned on on my journal by request and literally no one has ever taken advantage of that except this rly sweet anon i got recently but it was still nice.
start with their show! you get to know their names and faces and personalities really easily. :) plus the bts subbing team is pretty quick with the new episodes.
