jewish people weren't seen as white. all 'white people' have been treated as one race for less than 100 years. you sound like you think 'white people' have always been the same group of people for 1000s of years
you've proved my point, jewish people are seen as white today but they haven't been able to talk for 100s and 1000s of years. eastern and mediterranean europeans weren't seen as white too. so the poc can't tell every white person to shut up because they've talked for 100s and 1000s of years when that white person's ancestors might not have been 'white'. the class of the white persons ancestors also needs to be considered
trying to be historically accurate is not derailing
jewish people are seen as white and therefore have white privilege. if a bunch of pocs are talking about shit that affects them, then a jewish person may be able to have something to contribute but very unlikely - especially when it comes to things such as racial profiling by the police. can you honestly look at a bunch of white people and tell which is the jewish person? no. even with class, a white person will still have privilege.
my bad, sorry. i'm not trying to disregard it but if we're talking about current times, then jewish people still hold some sort of privilege, more so than some poc
i didn't say that they don't have white privilege NOW, but their ancestors didn't have that privilege because they weren't white. an old jewish person might be able contribute to a discussion about racial profiling. would anon tell that person to shut up?
what are the chances that an old jewish person will be on the internet talking about this? if they want to contribute, then they should contribute but they're not the ~white that anon is talking about
jewish people can talk about it but, currently, they don't face the same sort of discrimination that poc do. note the word currently. if a teenaged white jewish girl wanted to say something in a conversation about poc then their opinion isn't as wanted. it'd be nice to have some but on the whole, it's not needed. if it's an elderly jewish person who has been through that shit before, then i hope they do speak out.
lmao i was the one who made that comment and yes, i was definitely generalizing, and yes, i was exaggerating. it doesn't negate the fact that some but not all white people have oppressed poc for centuries. you are missing the point by arguing how a certain group of people, who are now considered part of the majority in modern society, the context we are having this discussion in, were part of the minority until now. when i made that comment (at 4 in the morning!!), i wasn't thinking about the specific struggles of a certain (what is now widely considered) "white" race. i was thinking about the specific struggles of my own race.
