idk how relevant this is but all of my friends who listen to/follow k-pop but aren't involved in fandom stan exclusively girl groups + big bang, but all of my friends who are in fandom stan mostly boy groups

see, there's that one guy group that even most hardcore girl group fans seem to like (some like shinee, some like exo, some like big bang, etc.)! but that's an interesting observation to make. hm. i wonder what significance that holds.

i think it's because a lot of my friends are music critics/listen to pop from that perspective and pop boy groups are generally taken less seriously? (because they're marketed to teenage girls, nobody takes teenage girls seriously, etc. etc.) hence big bang, who have already positioned themselves as serious about music. most of the north american pop they listen to is by women too.

lol this true for pretty much all of my friends who like kpop but don't anything about fandom. I know I can rec them songs from girl groups and they'll happily listen/dl but not for boy groups.
