but i think it also helps that they're basically very vanilla people? and true, jonghyun has always been hands on about his affection for people.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
i wouldn't describe either of them as vanilla, especially key. in fact, key has spoken about how badly he wants to stand out.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
key's desire for individuality doesn't seem grounded or mature at all to me, tbh. i love him but it seems flashy and conformist and kind of elitist. who knows, maybe he's not like that but he comes across as such a culture vulture.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
just gotta say that i disagree, anon. i do think that he partly does it for attention, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
do you mind elaborating? i could be reading him wrong.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
lol, this could be like a meta and i'm AWFUL at those.

but i mean, like the most obvious thing to bring up would be his fashion? and i think that his interest in fashion is completely serious. he has way too many connections and works too hard at it for it simply be a ploy for attention. i also think that he's genuinely interested in cultures outside of his own. not in a "vulture" way, but in a way that he appreciates the differences maybe? like he watches skins and desperate housewives, lol. he does that for his own enjoyment and not for the image that he wants to put forth.

idk, i said i was horrible at this. it's really hard to pinpoint why you feel someone is the way you think they are when there's really no concrete evidence that you can show.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
oh, i'm not saying it's a ploy, it's just that his conception of individuality is so not... not individual? i don't know to explain it but he just reminds me of kids from high school, idk. or hipster, just one of those people that feel like their taste for others' creations garners them merit. i hope to god he isn't like that but sometimes, i fear he is.

either way, who knows, right? so no problems, anon. i do get what you're trying to say.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
lol, this could go deep into what being an individual means which is way beyond my analytical skills. i do think that he's a bit of a hipster, not for the sake of being a hipster, but just because he is, lol. i just think that he likes to branch out more and not be so confined to what korea's likes and dislikes are? and i've never seen him express any superiority, so i wouldn't believe that he does it to feel above others.

lol, exactly. there's no right answer.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
he's just so snowflakey sometimes. it worries me.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-12 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
he likes being one of a kind, lol. it goes along with wanting attention and pursing the idol career.

da

key's an irrelevant idol without the talent or looks or entertainment value to stand out in his group or among the other idols. he prides himself on his ~individuality partly because he can't get a strong idol persona in other ways. it's not that mature but there are worse things. flashy clothes are a better way to feel good about yourself than plastic surgery and he genuinely loves fashion. his tastes in culture are pretty mainstream and not elitist but i think he does feel superior about his way of thinking

you kind of hit the nail on the head for me, thank you.

i should say that i think he's gorgeous and a good dancer/performer, but what he's got isn't to korea's taste

oh, i agree. he has amazing energy but he definitely isn't lovable to korea.
