ugh, why do author delete their fic journals? i can understand deleting individual pieces of fic but deleting whole journals without warning i just don't get. i can understand being overwhelming, etc, but couldn't an author just stop posting fic and disable comments and pms? idk.
meme, a lot of you are authors, right? what's your opinion on it?
as for why people delete it's for several reasons i think, the most common being that they want out of fandom, whether completely or just their current one(s).
tbh i think that kfandom is a weird place, what with how much deleting there is and how many socks there are and everything. but uh.
for selfish reasons i really dislike it when authors delete, i.e. i want to be able and go back to read fic, but i have some understanding for it? there is of course the option of just abandoning a journal, which i personally would opt for if i ever felt like leaving (if nothing very serious in fandom happened), but i think that it might be a way to just render the entire thing gone and behind. it's deleted and it doesn't exist, which might be relieving for some people. while it makes me sad when someone deletes i understand and sort of respect their decisions.
i do however have very little respect for serial deleters, and people who claim anxiety as a reason should perhaps consider using the mediums and platforms on which they are in other ways then. (i'm not saying not to post online, i'm saying to take precautions so that you won't end up in such a place that your anxiety makes you delete your work time and time again.)
i don't think we can do anything about writers wanting to delete their journals for whatever reason so i just accept it lol. it's sad and it's a dick move to pull on your readers but i understand that it's rly hard to let go of a fandom and that's one of the easier ways to deal :I
imo tho if you really don't want your favorite writers to delete their fic journals, at least try to do your part in preventing that (ie not stirring wank on other writers, etc. because karma's a bitch)
well i think it's annoying especially if you really like the person's fics, but readers should save it if they really like it just to be sure. as a writer i feel like i have (well, i do) creative right over my work so i can choose to delete whenever i want
i just *personally* feel funny ab saving an author's fic. i couldn't even tell you why. ig it's bc if an author does delete, it's bc they want their stuff gone and w/o all the extra copies floating around. or so i assume.
I've wanted to delete my writing journal a couple of times, and I can understand anyone who does. ultimately, it is my journal so I do have the ultimate say in if I want it still up or not.
I know some people delete/lock all their fic because of personal issues (usually they don't want someone IRL finding their writing) and idt there is anything you can do about that. I've deleted an old journal of mine because all the writing there was really bad and I was ashamed to have it associated with my name. and I've wanted to leave fandom a few times before, sever ties with it completely which meant deleting my journal so that I wouldn't be tempted by it. this closely followed a fight I had with a close fandom friend and looking at the journal also reminded me heavily of her and that kinda hurt because we stopped speaking after that.
all this being said, if you're scared a writer will delete, save their fic.
(sorry this is really jumbled up and disjointed :/)
