depends on the person in question, i assume! if a straight person or gay dude is referring to my sexuality, i prefer "lesbian," just because "gay" or "gay woman" sounds awkward to me; if it's a queer girl, then i don't really give a shit what she calls me.

i think it really varies on the individual and you should ask the individual you're talking to which terms they prefer
