i always get confused when anons are sad they can't read 200k kpop fics. do you know how many longfics suck? i'd much rather read a lot of shorter slice of life pieces with good character beats.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
those anons are probably too spoiled western fandoms. even the worst longfics in western fandom would be a masterpiece in kpop.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
lol this. as much as i sometimes think i'd love to see longfic for kpop, it'd probably be a fucking disaster

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
why are kficwriters so much worse than western writers, then? i don't read westernfic but i see this a lot

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
it's actually just because most kficwriters are really young, with less fandom experience. there are good stuff in kpop fandom that's better than stuff in western fandom as well.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, that makes sense. and yeah, ofc there's shit and gold everywhere haha.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
a larger proportion of kpop writers are young or esl

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
i think it's more to do with young than esl

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 all the writers I know are from ifandom and American/European

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
da but.. most europeans are esl?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
i think it's more the age thing, if anything. i'm esl myself and i think we make up for it with extra attention towards spelling/grammar etc. good writing is often more about good storytelling anyway, at least imo :)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
da but yeah i find the idea that esl people write worse fic kind of offensive.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
lol so the hint of pressage rising within me wasn't unlegitimate? i'm so deep into english that i barely use my native language anymore so i might not be the best example but if you're really into writing in this language, then it doesn't matter which language you grew up with.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't think so. i mean god there's a ton of non-native english speakers who write famous books, it's not that outrageous to think esl speakers could write good fic lol

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
nobody thinks of esl as people learning it as soon as they start school

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
+1. many good kpop writers are esl.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
idk. i cut my teeth on western fandoms and i have read reams and reams and reams of shit.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
same tbh, i really don't get the hype. sure there exists some really good super long fic in western fandoms, but tbh i most often see stuff that's like 2-5k long and no better than kpop stuff. maybe my western fandoms just suck idk.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
i def agree. first of all i dont have time for 200k, even if i imagine you can get into the mood if you decide to get through it, but.. if a shortfic sucks i haven't invested so much in it

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
sometimes i find that i like kfandom's poetry and pretentiousness for easy reading rather than western fandoms
