lol i misplaced my correction but i meant they're not treated in the same way by popular culture. it's a little different in an entertainment industry where looks are obviously important but we put a lot less pressure on men's appearances and criticize them less and there's a much wider range of acceptable looks.

we're all shaped by our environment and the media and it's not going to stop overnight. and yeah, ia that there are disgustingly unfair standards about women's beauty standards compared to men but it doesn't give people the right to call out others who don't like a certain female idol's looks to use this argument. that's what irks me the most

it's just a kneejerk reaction because despite what some people seem to ignore this shit does get posted a lot and it's frustrating to see someone constantly hate on popular girls just because they're popular.

anon, i like that we're having a level-headed conversation but i really have to disagree with that. i mean of course people hate for a variety of reasons but at the same time, people hate male idols just because they're popular or ugly too (my bias that a lot). and ia with you that it's stupid people hate on girl groups just because they're popular and/or are girls, but at the same time, you can't ignore the fact people hate on guy groups for these exact reasons too
