why do anons always treat "esl" like some personal insult? it's true that a lot of kfic writers are esl, hell, i'm an esl kfic writer. but there is also a disproportionate number of kfic writers who are esl at the level where they have a rudimentary grasp of the language, and confess this in the a/n. they say they have poorer grammar and they show it. sure, maybe you're a kfic writer and you're esl and your storytelling rivals that of the gods. but generally speaking, kficdom really does have more esl writers that have a weaker grasp of the language. that's.... not meant to be an insult?
I think it's in the terminology, because somebody speaking English as a second language doesn't automatically indicate poor writing mechanics. It makes more sense to say "there are a lot of writers in this fandom who don't have control over the English language" than to say "this fandom is full of esl ppl!!!" idk if that's getting my point across lol I'm tired and on my phone.
no, it does. would you prefer for anons to say "there are a lot of writers in this fandom who have a poorer grasp of the english language" every time instead?
