these are such nice prompts but i just can't think of anything to write from them ;--;

lu han is 10 years old when it first happens. he's in school and when he reaches to pick up his pencil, it rattles a little against the table. he stops and stares at it, then reaches for it again. this time it rolls away from his hand, stopping just before the edge.

"teacher, earthquake," he shouts, and the whole class stops suddenly, waits, holds their breath.

"i don't feel anything," says the teacher a minute later. lu han has to sit facing the wall for an hour for interrupting the class.

he only understands it when he's 14 and it starts happening again, but stronger, and it's just one more change among all the other changes in his body. the first time he tries to control it he accidentally throws a plate against the wall; it smashes into heavy white triangles that he kneels down to collect, chastised. later, he keeps one of the smaller chips in his pocket as a reminder, and gets into the habit of rubbing it between his fingers when he thinks. it's half smooth lacquer and half exposed, bumpy clay, and it's a fitting totem, he thinks, for someone with a face like his who also has a weird secret like his.
