(Anonymous) 2015-06-10 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)okay so seungyoon isn't even my favourite member of winner, but i'm just supremely fond of him? i think a lot of people who aren't winner fans tend to dislike him because he comes off pretentious, and he can rub people the wrong way. but overall, i really don't think that's a huge part of his personality? i mean he's probably pretentious, but the members have openly called him so, but he's genuinely a really good guy. he's really laid back, easy to get along with, and a lot of the people from his superstar k days and castmates from high kick are really fond of him. like he just seems like such a personable guy, really nice. (as an aside, i remember teddie lee (bleh) saying seungyoon was the one who suggested he try out for mydol, which i found super interesting.) tbh most of me definitely thinks he chose yg for the guaranteed exposure + fame over anything else, but i do also believe he knows where he's weak, and so i think he did approach having to train as long as he did as a way to hone is skills
he's really big on fanservice. he does the most of it for the fans, with his over the top aegyo, and his over the top sexy faces, and over the top everything. and i love it because if you see him other times with winner, he doesn't talk as much, and he's more reserved. like winner will be talking and playing a game, and seungyoon will kind of just be listening and smiling. but he's definitely playful when he wants to be! i think there's a part of him that kind of defaults to being like a little brother around some of the members, i mean he's said himself he doesn't act like a leader at all within the dorms, and i remember seunghoon saying that he expected ksy to be arrogant and pretentious, but when he meet him he was just like a younger brother following him around going "hyung~ hyung~". jinwoo's talked about how sometimes him and seungyoon fight (which really surprised me!) because of the weird dynamic where seungyoon is the second youngest but also the leader, and that sometimes he just oversteps things, and jinwoo needs to pull him back and tell him to be nicer. which, as nice as ksy is, i do think he probably has like... a mean streak in him? well not mean, but more like he sometimes he doesn't consider how things will sound if he says them, even though his intentions aren't malicious. i mean he's made some really iffy comments about mino's weight (this is extrapolating but like, ksy's relationship with body image concerns me sometimes. sometimes he says things that make me feel like he's obsessed with being skinny)
he takes his duty as leader SO SERIOUSLY. a lot of people seem to believe he resents being in a group/wants to go solo, but i think he knows pretty well that he wouldn't achieve half the fame he has now as a solo artist. also, he puts in literally 95% of all his time, thoughts, efforts, worries into winners. when they had to draw each other's mind maps everybody was kind of unanimous that seungyoon's entire brain was like winner winner winner winner, and they wished he would stop feeling taking all of the burden. i think throughout win he felt bad that if a disbanded he'd still get to debut solo, and instead of making him lazy, it made him feel like all of them getting through was his responsibility. he's the type of leader imo, that's both considerate of members' strengths and weaknesses, and that's why i think they've all made amends with following him in terms of artistic direction etc. because he considers what each of them can do well. like, it's really no secret that jinwoo is a black hole, but he still gets a fair amount of lines in all of their songs, and it's obvious that ksy really goes out of his way to include bits that jinwoo can sing (to people who think ksy is SO PRETENTIOUS, he's always spoken rly highly of jinwoo despite him being relatively talentless, and imo he's gone out of his way to do the OPPOSITE of making him feel bad for not being musically inclined. honestly #KSYPROTECTIONSQUAD!!!!)
that's all i can think off from the top of my head... lol this turned out to be a FIGHT ME KSY HATERS post over any kind of meta. but as i said he isn't even in my top two of winner, but i'm just so fond of him, and i love him T___T i genuinely think non-winner fans are too harsh on him for being obnoxious or pretentious or whatever, and it doesn't make that much sense to me, because sure he's said things, but it's so minuscule compared to everything else u___u

(Anonymous) 2015-06-10 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)i haven't thought about him in a while but when i do i'm just like maaaan this kid is so talented, somehow i sometimes forget that he's one of the louder personalities in winner? i think tho he can come off as pretentious, like, it's just that he's pretty blunt, and his brain to mouth filter can be pretty lacking in the "we gotta do well gotta make it to the top" way that sometimes he can come off as harsh/pretentious.
and i super agree with you in regards to him not REALLY pulling the leader card in the sense that his role as leader is taken seriously, but not to the point that he's a scary kinda leader at all. i think he likes treating the others as equals, kinda, and like you said, i think he also has that guilt where yeah, if they disbanded he could continue solo and stuff.
but in regards to group dynamics i think he enjoys goofing so much. and omg your mention of seunghoon thinking he was gonna be some hotshot star from a day of kang seungyoon (aka my absolute FAVOURITE SEUNGYOON VIDEO EVER that i've replayed many times), when their first meeting was seungyoon looking like he rolled out of a sewer or something and only one sock on LOL i think he's really natural even when he's being a brat like in that video, whining about toothpaste and whining about getting up, and his STUPID ballet/valet joke and his million and two body gags--he's really natural and being hilarious and bringing the group together in that sense to me
i agree that he's said certain iffy things (and yeah, the body image stuff also concerns me a little now that you mention it) and can come off as a dickbag, but he does make up for it in ways (that don't justify/excuse anything) where he's just a friendly kid who plays guitar and sings a lot, but also a good leader who takes team input into consideration. winner's line distribution is really great imo, and like what you said about putting jinwoo into songs, i totally agree with you. jinwoo is one of my faves, and like you said he's... relatively... talentles... and can come off as bland... but he's sweet and has a sweet voice when applied, and i think you can definitely hear how seungyoon has utilised that in their song arrangements <3
WOW THIS IS LONG i didn't know i still had winner feelings tbh, i didn't really feel their album so much past the title songs and mino's solo and maybe 2 more i've potentially forgotten (oop), but i will fight with you in the battle to say that ksy is a generally, genuinely, nice kid!!! #KSYPROTECTIONSQUAD!!!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 10:35 am (UTC)(link)ia about the bit about him being pretentious as more him being blunt. like even though i've always really liked him, i used to be unimpressed with some of the stuff he says. but you're right it really is that he just has the mindset that "winner needs to be the best", and the way he expresses it comes across condescending sometimes. but like, i don't think he thinks any less of anyone. his harsh/pretentiousness mostly applies to himself/his own interests, rather than him being snobbish or looking down at other people?
i completely agree with what you said, like he is a TOTAL goofball. i think he's very chill, and reserved, but not in an introverted way? he just keeps calm while the rest get overexcited. but he's so stupid and talkative and ott when he has fun. like with his aegyo, even though it's fanservice, it comes so easy to him?? i keep thinking of that clip with him and mino in those wigs doing the "UNNIE" thing, like legit what a dumb dumpling?? also lol a day of ksy was so iconic, my god he's so dumb
also since you tangentially brought up group dynamics... i want... to ramble about it... i love ksy's relationships with the others in the group. i have a big spot for kangnam and i love kangsong, especially in regards to the leader change (as an aside, it's very hard for me to believe yg made mino the leader over seungyoon without it being scripted, because seungyoon is SUCH an obvious choice? but also idk how they could fake mino breaking his ankle but), and because they're so goofy together, and i like the idea of kangnamsong being the songwriters of the group. i really love how all of them make fun of him, i mean they all make fun of each other, but their jabs at seungyoon are so... like they make these comments about his personality, him nagging, being pretentious, and he takes it with such good stride. like he's so self-aware. my favourite ksy relationships are probably 2seung and jinyoon though. i love 2seung just because i think they have really good banter, and small things like talking in a dialect around each other, and how seungyoon acts like a little brother around him sometimes (
i'm glad you still have winner feelings anon!! i stan them heaps, but like... idk i'm not that active in fandom for them, and with them in the basement i forget how much i like them until i ended up typing up an essay about ksy... lol... #KSYPROTECTIONSQUAD

LEMME! scream! i ship it omg 2seung pls ;; busan boys pls! i love it when dialect slips out like even a little bit and i just go like "aaaah". as someone who lives away from home, hearing familiar accents always make me feel better and i wonder if they feel the same T__T
honestly idk what to say that much about group dynamics bc i don't stan them very much or rather, very well u__u and omg kangnam and their ~akward dynamic~ during winnter tv i'm just like "pls" lmao. i like songwriting...line (can we call them that LOL) too, tho sometimes seeing taehyun annoys me irrationally bc he just gave me meh vibes during WIN and i'm not the biggest fan of his voice LOL but i do know he's cherished and important to the group, therefore he is important to me even if by default lol! but yeah other than that in terms of dynamics i like minhoon l o l i just want them to goof around and be qt and happy together and dance with ahjummas all the time!
and as for the rest: reading what you like about them makes my heart swell! i love reading what other people have to say about the groups i care for! and i'm so ;____; about the jinyoon collab thing omg i really.. want to protect jinwoo so much sometimes lmao this silly hyung person with the caught in the headlights eyes that make him seem like he's going to cry half the time I LIKE HIM SO MUCH LOL I'M SO GLAD SEUNGYOON DOES TOO!!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-11 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)omg anon if you haven't watched their winner collection dvd yet you should get to it when you have time! winner are so entertaining, and 2seung are just super duper cute in all the sections T__T also they have a conversation in busan dialect to each other, and i was just like omggg ;;;; this is probably how they speak to each other all the time when the others aren't around
pls talk to me about anything anon! tbh for all the time i've invested in winner, mb cos i'm not overly involved in fandom, i still don't feel like i know them that well T__T lol anon it's okay, taehyun is my least favourite in winner by a fair bit, tho i'm more fond of him now than i was before. he's cute with the other members, and in seunghoon's words "he's like a cat that hates to be cuddled but hates it more when he's not cuddled". so i like him in winner a lot, so i still care about him u__u ANON i love mino/seunghoon!!! they're my favourite relationship in the band too, they're so dumb and silly together, and aaah ;; i love how much they laugh around each other. i can't get over them shipping their luggage in winnertv, and kangnam being all "lmao they can't be apart" when they heard them yelling from their hotel room
#JINWOOPROTECTIONSQUAD saaame anon!! T___T reading ksy's message to jinwoo made me . i totally fell for the editing in win lmao, and so now i just always want him to be happy. he is... talentless, but i love how the other members never make him feel bad for it, and they all cherish him so much!! literally everyone has the same thing to say about him, that he's the nicest guy in the world, and it makes me ;__; what a great mat hyung. and he talks about how he doesn't like acting like he's older than them, and he lets them tease him, because he wants the dynamic to be equal. lol like i genuinely forget that jinwoo->taehyun have a 3 years age difference between them, i feel like all of winner are the same age for some reason because there's no obvious hyung/dongsaeng dynamics (compared to ikon where my brain hurts if i think about hanbin only being like 3 months older than donghyuk, it seems so much bigger)
