anons how do you write about an idol's family in a fic without it seeming really..?? weird??
idk whenever i read fic where a family member is a major character or has a speaking role, it always seems either really forced/unrealistic or just really squicks me out, even in aus. but idols dont exactly live in like a vacuum
i never do it because imo the idol's family didn't sign up to be public figures the way the idol did so i don't feel comfortable making them into characters and writing about them
idk i'm doing that rn and i just try to limit their existance in fic as much as possible to say maybe a name drop here and there and a tiny scene as a reminder. and i'm trying to treat the parents as fake parents as in fake written parents not the idols actual ones and that helps. it's hard for me to not include references to parents so i gotta do it somehow
i have never written a fic which featured a family member prominently, but i have written fics where family members were mentioned or had a few lines here and there and i just...treated them like a fictional character?
to me there's a difference between trying to dig up information to write them "accurately" (which falls in the realm of 'they didn't sign up to be an idol') and treating them as an oc with the same name
