my favorite fic that i have ever written has only gotten 2 comments on it bc it wasn't for a popular ship whereas some of my cheaply written fics got more comments bc of the ship. shout out to the underrated fics out there for little otps!
same. it's kind of sad that the pairing has caused a 15k fic i think turned out really well after i put a month's worth of effort into it has gone largely unnoticed in comparison to shitty crackfics i spent all of 2 hours on. i'd much rather be known for my higher quality work but instead i'm known for the crap. lol. i feel your pain.
i just try to think of it this way: people with small, rare fandoms or pairings don't have a lot of fic. so getting a really good fic will mean more to them than people with a much bigger fandom or ship, who have tons of good fic to choose from. depending on how small the fandom or ship is, they might just be happy to get any fic at all lol. so at least you're making a few people very happy.

also, i'm just gonna post this here instead of tumblr/twitter bc i don't wanna create any in-fandom drama, esp since i do love sunggyu and obvs my pairing preference would have ppl say i'm biased but... did anyone who watched sunggyu's v app broadcast get kinda weirded out by the way he kept talking about sungyeol? idek how to explain it...it was just really odd the way he kept bringing him up and it came off as forced/disingenuous? and kinda reminded me of that awkward myunggyu push last year. idk, idk... i just remember getting a strange feeling while watching gyu talk about him and it was weird af bc it's not like i'm anti-gyuyeol or anything. even tho this place is kinda dead, i just wanted to see if anyone else felt this way or it was just me having a weird reaction. *shrugs*

honestly most of the time the likelihood i am to write something is based on how much exposure i think i'll get with it (e.g. fandom or pairing popularity)

i ship this rarepair in my fandom that people largely overlook and over the years i have been pushing the pairing by writing a lot of fic (>100 written in varying lengths) and it's easy to say 'be the change you want to see in this world and write all the fic you wanna read' but it gets tiring at some point. i'm tired of having to read my own crap when i want fic for my pairing and despite trying hard to get other people to bite most people come along, they stay with my pairing and i for a little bit and then ditch me when they find someone better in the fandom.

i think it's interesting how you can see sign-ups so i've been kind of judging and evaluating the authors and i think i trust at least half of them to write well. i feel like with how the ficdom is on ao3 a lot of people hadn't heard about the exchange? i want to go send anons to authors i like or something.

i'm sitting here trying to figure out how to start a double b thesis and i can't even start to put it into words so my cliff notes (lmao not really) version is that i love them together? ik a lot of people think they are overrated and cliquey and tbh they are cliquey and i usually hate friendships like that but there is something so genuine about the way they are with e/o? like the fact that they were the first 2 trainees alongside jinhwan and were able to create this inseparable bond that is just amazing i can't. i like that they don't hide when they disagree on something or there is tension either i think that's what makes them so real to me, like when bi couldn't deal anymore on win/m&m and closed himself off and bobby wasn't having it that's true friendship imo. also the fact that they went on smtm3 together and supported e/o despite being on different teams and went thru it together, makes me think things would have been a lot different if only one of them had gone alone initially. they were competition and they used some of it to drive them on but moreso idt they could ever see eo as rivals even when it could help them rise more? i think they rely on e/o a lot -> i feel like hanbin relies on bobby for everything. friendship, trust, secrets, laughter, family feels and for someone with so many leadership qualities like hanbin has its strangely comforting to see him be so independent on someone else? sometimes idt bobby is even aware of how much hanbin clings to him bc bobby sees everything as a good time and enjoys hanbins company. but thats not to say bobby is one note either, he can be pretty dimensional and i think he relies on hanbin to lead the group something he could never do despite the fact that he's older (Ex. when m&m he didn't do a solid job leading junhwe/jihyeong in the team matches) and he postively envies that about hanbin but would never try to take that place. in turn hes basically hanbins secondbest at choreo, producing, writing he takes the pressure off for hanbin when he can and i think that's just so great. a part of me worries about what is hanbin gonna do when ikon eventually expand their group of friends bc he might get alienated by bobby being social so quickly and being forgotten but idt bobby could ever separate himself from hanbin so its a bit of a moot point lol. anthem as a unit song was great bc its basically something double b have been yearning to do for years together and it really showcased their chemistry on stage and how they balance ideas off e/o without going overboard and cramming their inside jokes as well. like even the little choreo bits are something only the 2 of them would do together? like i said i know they are cliquey af and it can come off as cocky to others but it comes from a place of history and relying on e/o when they were the only trainees around. i think it says a lot that hanbin was willing to open himself that much to a kid from virginia with poor speaking skills lol and likewise bobby to hanbin this dorky kid whod been stuck in a basement for his youth and somehow they bonded over it. i also really enjoy their skinship? like obvs these boys are platonic af but they really have no concept of personal space which is just hilarious to me. esp since they can respect some of the other guys space and keep boundaries afloat but with e/o there is no such thing unless it comes to food and then they can get strangely territorial. and they copy e/o a lot too which idk if it's intentional or not but is funny all the same like w/bobby's inside out pants which the other boys made fun of in the v app and lo and behold he somehow got hanbin to cave and wear them too. brainwashing or just a stylistic preference well never know haha. my last nonpoint is my favorite moment of them was when they went to the smtm auditions together and were so nervous and clinged to eo like bozos and the moment in the car where hanbin looked like he was gonna piss his pants but they were holding hands and bobby was like not even aware they were doing it it was just so sweet? i want a platonic friendship like that! sry this was super incoherent i told u i was a mess when it came to them

i usually don't like established relationships in fic unless it's referring to a break up in the past. i feel cheated when they are already in a relationship bc i like the build up so much??? lol
has anyone been reading the winderland fics, i need to catch up but idk where to start
any tips on how to write longer, fuller scenes? my perpetual problem is that my scenes, and by extension my fics, are too short and fast-paced, and so many times when i read my writing through i think to myself that something's missing, but i have no idea what else to put in it? i wish my style was richer and slower, not just jumping from plot point to plot point
i feel like this is what everybody says so it might not help you, but i have this problem too and i find what i'm missing a lot of the time is description, especially of setting. so many scenes take place with people standing up and sitting down on table and chairs in an otherwise featureless room, or move through a place without giving a sense of what the layout of the place is, etc. even things that the narrator/"seeing" character would notice when they go in somewhere. in aus (esp. professional or fantasy) this is also good to do since it fleshes out the world for the reader, or can even give clues about the narrating character's relationship to the world by what they observe.
description in general helps slow things down when they're going too fast, i think. i also like to pad out dialogue exchanges by giving the characters movement or things to do while they're talking although this can get repetitive sometimes. i'm one of those people who writes "he/she smiled" a lot just to have something to say (though i'm trying to cut this down).
a lot of writers i like get into the interior of a character too and buy some pacing time that way, but i'm not really good at that yet.

i HATE writing issuefic, but somehow i always get those prompts in exchanges/fests. i don't know what to do, i want to give the people i'm writing for what they want but i never have fun doing it.
