i'll be glad when it's over tbh, i'm stuck in limbo with everything until i go away to school next year and fallen back into bad habits and don't rly care enough to climb out as much as i should.
i'm surprised that saying someone's writing is "easy to read" seems to be a compliment people bestow a lot? only because easy to read doesn't seem like a huge positive to me, like i've read plenty of bad fic that's easy to read. so usually i tell people that their writing flows well because i think that gets across the... ease of reading it lol, i feel, better
to me "easy to read" would be a compliment. i had a friend who used to write the most unreadable fic - it flowed well enough, but you needed a fucking dictionary to make sense of it. after dealing with that for years i have zero patient with overly complicated writing, no matter how well written it is.
i think a combination of both (unhelpful answer) because i value my own observations more than others but i think having to talk it out and justify my opinions helps to strengthen my characterization.
so many people consider 10k+ fics to be really long but idk maybe it's because i came from western fandom, but i feel like for a fic with an actual conflict -> resolution plot 10k is pretty standard? unless it's canon and/or it's told in a more summarised fashion, i feel like it takes ~10k to satisfactorily wrap up a fic with plot
it's a difference in writing style. for most standard kpop fics, 10k would be excessive tbh but for most western style aus you definitely need that much.
i think there's a difference between moving on from a group and loving on from ficcing a group? like to this day i still stan shinee and they're my number one, and idt i've moved on, but i just don't have interest in ficcing them anymore after 6 years? lol
yeah, but its no big deal whether you move on ficwise or completely ditch them for another group, its your prerogative. sadly in fandom there's still a stigma attached to jumping ship so thats why ppl make socks
ficmix is still looking for authors from a few fandoms who would like to offer their fics to be remixed, and you don't have to write anything in return
what is it about gdgdbaby's writing that's so recognizable? is it like the style or the story? i've heard this said so many times that i'm curious, but i haven't read much of her stuff
do you ever have that author(s) whose writing you really like but they aren't well known in fandom? so you end up feeling really fond of them, and then later on they gain traction and you're happy for them, but you have some weird hipster pride like "i knew they were good before they were popular"
do anons have any advice on how to write description? set the mood of a fic through the setting? i struggle a lot with descriptive devices and imagery and i'd really like to get better
lol i know that feeling all too well anon... you just have to remember your friendship with them individually is independent from their friendship with each other, and they still both like you a lot i'm sure
in my case it also didn't help that they somehow had more mutuals with each other than i did with each of them, so i felt really out of the loop sometimes. but after taking a step back and talking to them both individually i mostly came to terms with it, and i also realised that while they're closer on some things, i'm closer to them on other things. friendship isn't quantifiable anon!
