genre would be rly restricting too, i think... a lot of ppl i know won't read angst or look down on humour or smth. maybe instead of genre teams or universe teams, they'd just be 3 arbitrary teams and there would be categories of challenges, rather than those mv prompts that nobody ever likes.

like there could be several rounds of with word count limits: short, medium, and long fics. then several rounds of universes: canon, au, future. several rounds of subverted tropes. several rounds of genre. etc.
