Sehun sighs sharply and rubs his temples. "Forget espressos, what I really need right now is a shot of good, strong whisky," he mutters. "Anyway -- what are we going to do next, Jongin?"
"SMent is a sunk cost at this point, we should move onto the next ship," Jongin says.
"Yes, I know that much, Jongin. I passed Financial Investment 101 too," Sehun says snippily.
Jongin stifles a sigh and lets Sehun's tone pass without comment. "Kyungsoo hyung said that he had a contact in China making a lot of money right now," he says. "I'm going to go after that and see if it's worth it." There's a pause, and then he adds, "Relax, Sehun. We're both still doing well for ourselves, aren't we? We'll get back on track, even if it takes a while longer than expected."
He doesn't miss the moment of hesitation before Sehun says, "Yeah, of course."
A good friend probably would've pressed the point, asked if something were wrong. Instead, Jongin calls Joonmyun and asks if he's free for dinner sometime that week. "I had a meeting tomorrow, but it was canceled. Shall I schedule you in?" Joonmyun replies.
"Please do," Jongin says. As usual, Joonmyun's idea of dinner is a restaurant that serves dishes that are preposterously tiny and extraordinarily expensive washed down with vintage wines. As usual, Jongin's idea of dinner is the first step in maneuvering Joonmyun into a fancy hotel room bed and subtly stripping away his secrets.
Unlike usual, though, Joonmyun is rather quiet post-coitus. "It's amazing, what happened to SM," Jongin comments, attempting to steer Joonmyun into conversation.
"Yes," Joonmyun replies simply. "It is amazing. I can't believe it myself."
It's all Jongin can get out of him. He tries not to let his irritation show, and settles in for a round two to mask his disappointment.
When he leaves the hotel (after Joonmyun, as always, in an attempt to at least be somewhat subtle), he's intercepted by a pair of men. One is tall, the other short. "Hi," says the short one. "Nice to meet you."
"I don't have conversations with strangers," Jongin says, and attempts unsuccessfully to side-step them.
"But we know plenty about you, Kim Jongin," the tall one replies, smiling very widely as he blocks Jongin's attempt at getting away.
Jongin measures his options carefully. "Since you know my name, it's only polite to give me yours," he says slowly.
"I'm Baekhyun, that's Chanyeol. You can do the rest of the research yourself," the first one says. "We're just here to give you a friendly hello."
and that's all i've got for now but at any rate in my head, baekyeol are on joonmyun's "side" but are also probably attempting to use him, poor suho (or is he using them all? it is a mystery)
