another interesting expansion on a fic which was original a drabble (in this case, a super short one, too). the story itself felt a little incomplete, but i didn't really mind. i liked the characterization in this fic the most. as a vixx fan i also like that the remixer chose such a rare pairing to do for this challenge and i enjoyed how the remixer portrayed the pairing's dynamics.

idk if it's the lazy state of fic reading/writing these days (minus exo with their 96354690508430 word fics) but i'm developing a new appreciation for well done short fics. if an author can create an interesting and complete story in less than 3k i really respect them.

i wish i was better at writing a complete story in less than 3k but every time i reread my stuff i see all these gaps i should've filled in. i don't want to be a fic writer who can shit out 60k like nothing but i would like to be able to write longer pieces well.

i can't speak for all anons but originally i was just annoyed by the check in itself and comments not being screened. there's no mention of a second checkin on the signup page or in assignment emails. the only mention was on a mods personal Twitter. so a lot of us were caught by surprise. and no effort has been made to find out why people aren't checking in.

and they just haven't provided a reason for not screening comments. when the q was asked on the post i didn't think it would turn into the back and forth that it did. two people mentioned it which i feel should have clued mods in that people wanted them screened.

does anyone else obsess over word count when writing fic? like i don't mean it has to be this long kind of obsess. but the word count has to be a multiple of ten, preferably multiple of a hundred but that's harder to control. and when it's not you just keep editing until it is, that kind of obsess.

As I said above, I received a lot of prompts during sign-ups. And surprisingly, a lot of them were very similar, so even looking at your summary, and going through the list of sign-ups, I don't think anyone can really say for sure who you're writing for.

i just had a revelation that the reason i stopped liking this one member of my bias group so much is bc fandom portrays him basically as a mary sue: kind and wonderful and attractive and pure-hearted, with his only flaw being that he's clumsy, which makes him even more charming

(i also remember reading that calling out "mary sues" is sexist but i forget why??)

to make this a discussion, are you satisfied w how your fandom portrays your bias/es? obviously none are going to be perfect but is there some characterization you like better than others?

tbh i'm tired of hearing the phrase 'angel' every time someone mentions my bias. it was kind of cute at first, but it gets very annoying when no one in fandom will ever let that portrayal rest. i'm quite tired of reading fics about my bias with a pair of wings, or fics that paint a picture of my bias as a complete angel personality-wise. he isn't. he is flawed in so many ways, people dislike him for those flaws and it's not possible to capture him well if you ignore them.

it's part of the reason why i stopped reading aff - too many of such fics around, too few good ones (even though the good ones are really good)

this writer needs to work on their comma usage. they had a very strong tendency to use commas to combine complete sentences where they really ought to have just used periods instead. i used to be in the b1a4 fandom and i don't really buy cnu being so "against jinyoung and what he was," even in the case of being a vampire. the whole vampire thing was a neat twist on the original story, but i can't say the remixer really pulled it off. the writing wasn't too awkward but it was distracting, and the characterization wasn't convincing. the strange mix of stage names and real names also stood out to me.
